RBS Culling

Today the other contractor besides me at work got ‘let go’ – bit mean only giving 2 days notice but I guess it gives them a bit more pleasure in doing so. With my contract ending next week, i’ll be finding out my extension soon. Should be fine and dandy.

Heading to The Feelers on friday night, bit of NZ music for me once again. Will be interesting to see the Kiwi scene of Edinburgh, and i’m sure some drunkeness will accompany it.

Still waiting on the webcam. If any of you out there want a chat – get in touch…

Webcam

I’ve just ordered me a webcam off Amazon, so should have a new eye on the internet fairly soon. If you are on skype, i’ll be chatting to you soon. If you aren’t, get in touch and we can sort something out :)

Weekend!

What a long week, but its finally over. We got a little snow in Edinburgh yesterday as well which makes winter that little bit better. The rest of europe got a lashing though, nasty storms everywhere. Plans for the weekend? We are heading out to try some indoor rock climbing. I haven’t been for a few years so will be a good one to try again.

There is a ski club at work with a day trip coming up for nice and cheap. My chance to check out some highland snow :)

All the photos are working now, Flickr is a bit tricky to use initially to actually see all of the photos - but i’m sure you will get the hang of it…

Long Days

This week seems to be dragging out already. Work is manic at the moment, exhausting me by the time I get home to make me want to do nothing. Just waiting for the weekend at the moment which is not a good way to live I don’t think. I’ve decided to find some little projects to get started on to keep me busy and by the end produce something to show for my time.

I’ve been inspired by a friends photos, so have decided to work on my photos a lot more. I want to make an album, something more tangible than photos on a hard-drive. Don’t worry, i’ll post some up for you all as well. It’s a bit trickier to stay motivated with a hobby without any feedback on things, so I would really appreciate any comments from you all out there to help push in some new directions in the photographic world.

Trying to figure out how to link in Flickr at the moment. Stay tuned…

Darkroom Session #1

I finally got around to using my voucher for my free darkroom session and spent a good 3 hours mixing chemicals, working out developing times, printing, etc. It took a while to get started but in the end I managed to get one decent print out of it all. Will scan and put it up soon. I didn’t really expect major results this time round, but it was a good reminder of what I’m actually doing. Will sort through my negatives once again and head back soon.

Bought a new lens off eBay as well (my first purchase ever on there, and I was accused by other bidders of being a fake bidder to put the price up). Its too dark and cold to experiment with it yet, but once I get some results then I’ll put them up.

Got an ice cream maker for xmas so i’m off to make some fresh vanilla frozen yogurt. Yum.

Umbrella

Well, here we are on another trip around the sun. There is always so much hype to do something special for the new year, but we decided to keep it simple by heading out for a decent dinner. No other plans until massive storms hit the country last night, with gale force winds cancelling the street party, fireworks, concerts, etc but it did mean we could meet up with some friends at the pub.

At 10 to midnight, people started leaving as they put the TV on for the view of the canon being fired from the castle marking the new year. This quickly cut to scenes of fireworks being shot off the castle that we guessed were from last year’s footage, but the sound of explosions outside causing confusion within the pub and people running outside with excitement. There was a salvo of fireworks launched from nearby hill by some locals, with random spruts around the city. It all ended so quick and disappointment followed for many with the whole buildup suddenly over for all (I wasn’t too fussed).

We started the walk home and for me it was nice to soak in the atmosphere of people wandering around in a good mood, cheering to each other. Along the way were lots of bins, xmas trees, rubbish, and other items being blown around the place with the strong winds. We came across a whole tree felled by the winds near our place and a few locals calling friends about it. As soon as I took a photo, one girl started yelling “he’s a journalist, he’s a journalist”, and rushed over to make me take her photo (which sadly didn’t turn out in the dark distance).

We got some travel plans already in mind, so the year is starting out well :)
